America Recycles Day 2012 is coming up in three days time. On November 15th, events will be hosted all over the nation. America Recycles Day has been registering events since August and it is not too late to add one. They are inviting you to help beat their 2011 record of 2000 events around the country. If organizing an event is not possible, you can still make an impact just by going along to one near you.

A good example is a joint venture in Chicago which sees Community Recycling, Illinois AmVets and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation combining their resources to increase awareness and celebrate recycling. Specifically, recycling clothes, shoes and household goods.
From today until the end of the week you will see donation centers stationed throughout the Chicago Metro. Bring along your unwanted clothes and household goods and you can enter a raffle to win an iPad.
“Illinois AmVets and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are thrilled to take this opportunity to further educate our residents about the need for textile recycling to support our mission of helping to provide services and resources to these charities and their families. It is especially relevant as we consider the importance and meaning behind textile recycling on a day where most folks are just thinking about traditional recyclables like paper, plastic and aluminum.” – said Tom Foley on behalf of Illinois AmVets and JDRF.
Community Recycling collects unwanted textiles and related materials for reuse, resale and recycling in the US and abroad.
“The Am Vets and JDRF attended collection sites for recycling of textiles are valuable asset to the Chicago Metro community,” said Lisa Pomerantz, VP of Marketing and Business Development. We are always supportive of easy and convenient ways to enable everyone to participate in textile recycling. Our goal during this week is to celebrate America Recycles Day with a textile spin, getting as many people as we can to the attended sites for drop-off and keeping clothes and goods out of landfills.”
The lucky iPad winner will be announced on Friday 19th. So if you want to be in with a chance, or if you just want to do some recycling!, go along to your nearest donation site.
