If you are a clean energy startup in the American Midwest or a student with an idea for one, there is just time to face the Clean Energy Challenge. Applications for the 2013 challenge must be submitted by Monday, December 3rd. Finalists of past competitions have already created over 200 high-tech jobs in the region. There is more than $300,000 in prizes to be won.
The Clean Energy Challenge is the main event run by the Chicago-based Clean Energy Trust which has as its mission:
to accelerate the development of Midwest clean energy businesses by connecting entrepreneurs, researchers and early stage companies with the expertise and capital needed to become sustainable.

The challenge has two distinct competitions. One is open to early-stage businesses which must be established startup companies. The other is for students with clean energy business ideas.
The Clean Energy Trust claims that Challenge finalists have created more than 200 high-tech jobs in the Midwest and raised more than $23 million in follow-on funding. Past finalists and winners have also gone on to win important national clean-tech awards.
